Mail Client Configuration Notes
Microsoft Outlook Express
- Click on Tools, then Accounts.
- Click on Add, then select "Mail".
- Fill in Name.
- Under "incoming" and "outgoing" mail, fill in the local IP address or host name of the MailGate server, usually "MailGate" in both the outgoing mail and incoming mail slots.
- Enter the POP account name as the mailbox name in MailGate that you wish to collect from, and the password for that mailbox.
- Enter the name of the account.
- Select "Connect using Lan", then click on Finnish.
Otherwise select "Logon using" and fill in the name of your mailbox and your password on the MailGate server.
Microsoft Internet Mail
- Select the Mail menu and click on Options.
- Select Server tab.
- Fill in Name, Organization and email address.
- Under "Servers" fill in the local IP address or host name of the MailGate server, usually "MailGate" in both the outgoing mail and incoming mail slots.
- Under Logon settings: If you configured MailGate to use NT password authentication then select "Logon using secure password authentication.
Otherwise select "Logon using" and fill in the name of your mailbox and your password on the MailGate server.
Microsoft Outlook & Windows Messaging
- Tools menu, Services option.
- If Internet Mail Service is not present, select Add and enter the service, you will be asked to configure the service as below. If Internet Mail Service is present, select properties.
- On General Tab, fill in your email address, and if relevant, your Reply To address and other details.
- On Servers Tab, fill in the local IP address or host name of the MailGate Server identically for both Incoming Mail and Outgoing Mail. Fill in the Logon Name as the name of your mailbox on the MailGate Server, and give the local password for that mailbox. Do not use Secure Password Authentication.
- On Connection Tab, select "I use a local LAN"
- On Advanced Tab do not adjust the Server Port numbers of Secure Connection items unless your system administrator has specifically given you information on how to do this. Server Timeouts should not normally require adjustment. Delivery can be configured for UIDL, leaving copies of all messages in your MailGate mailbox for a user-definable period.
- When complete, click OK, click OK again to return to the Outlook/Messaging main window. Exit Outlook/Messaging and restart the application.
Forte Agent/Free Agent Mail Configuration
- Select the Options menu and click on General Preferences
- Select User tab and fill in your email and other personal details.
- Select System Tab and enter the IP address or name of the MailGate server under both the mail and news server.
Ashmount Virtual Access
- Select the File menu and click on Comms Setting
- Select the Internet service to configure
- On the MAIL tab set the outgoing and incoming mail server as MailGate
Qualcom Eudora 3 & 4
- Select the Tools menu and click on Options
- Select Getting started, fill in your pop account details. Note Eudora requires a fully qualified mail name - popname@your_ISP will work correctly for machines on workgroups which are not part of a domain. Add Real name and return address.
- Select Hosts and enter the SMTP address - this is the MailGate server address or name.
- Select Auto Configure and fill in the Server Name: this is the IP address or name of the MailGate Server. Enter the user name and password for the MailGate POP mailbox.
- Click OK to accept all changes.
Qualcom Eudora 5
- Select the Tools menu and click on Options
- Select Getting started, fill in your pop account details.
- In the "Mail Server (incoming)" and "SMTP Server (outgoing) fields, enter the IP address of the machine MailGate is running on.
- In the "Login name" field, enter the mailbox name in MailGate that you wish to collect from.
- Click OK to accept all changes.
- Click on Special, then Change Password, and you can set the password to the mailbox password on MailGate.
Netscape Communicator 4 & Netscape 3
- Select the Edit menu, Preferences option.
- Select Identity options and enter your full email address, full name and organisation name as you wish it to appear in the various option boxes. Configure signatures if relevant.
- Select Mail & Groups, Mail Server
- Set Mail Server User name to the name of your MailGate mailbox
- Set both the outgoing Mail Server name and the Incoming Mail Server name to the IP address or host name of your MailGate server
- Set the Mail Server type to POP3
- Select More Options button and set Netscape to remember your mail password on the MailGate server. Set Netscape to collect Mail every n minutes (or 0 for no automated collection). Do not set MAPI options; do not set IMAP options.
- Click OK and then close and restart Netscape for options to take effect.
Goldmine
- Click on Edit, then select the Preferences option.
- In the preferences window, select the Internet tab.
- Set both "POP3 server" and "SMTP server" to the IP address of the machine MailGate is on.
- Set "Username" to the name of your MailGate mailbox.
- Set "Password" to the password given to the MailGate mailbox.
- Make sure that the "Use Dial-up networking" box in the bottom-right corner is not checked.
- Click OK.
